Jim Perry Stadium is the home of Fighting Camel baseball.
Previously known as Taylor Field, the venue dates back to the 1940s and Campbell's junior college baseball days. Taylor Field was named for Herbert B. Taylor, a supporter of Campbell University's athletics programs. Following the 2012 season, the field was renamed for Jim Perry, who played baseball and basketball for Campbell from 1956 to 1959. Perry pitched in Major League Baseball for 17 seasons, earning the 1970 American League Cy Young Award as a member of the Minnesota Twins.
The facility's new playing surface was completed prior to the 2017 season, completing a major portion of the renovation process. The new turf field was installed by ProGrass Turf, a leader in the synthetic turf industry. ProGrass Turf created the ProGrass HR Baseball five-tool synthetic turf system by using a two inch pile height and three different infill mixtures. Together, these create a turf playing surface that replicates a natural baseball field's look and playability. The fiber, working with the infill combinations, truly controls the speed of the ball off the bat and eliminates bad bounces. It's the baseball turf system to beat; providing durability, performance, aesthetics and feel - all in one system. Additionally, new padding on the outfield walls, as well as new foul poles have been installed during the process.
The field dimensions are 337 feet down the left field line, 368 feet in left-center, 395 feet to straight-away center, 375 feet to the right-center, and 328 feet down the right field line.
Jim Perry Stadium also served as the home of the Buies Creek Astros for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The Houston Astros announced that the Carolina League Buies Creek Astros would serve as the temporary Astros Class A Advanced affiliate for the 2017-18 seasons. The Astros organization also agreed to provide and install a completely new synthetic turf for Jim Perry Stadium. The Astros wrapped up their two-year stay in Buies Creek by winning the 2018 Carolina League championship.
